Jean Batten, who was the first person to fly between England and New Zealand solo, and Ynes Mexia, who was the first to discover the botanical genus Mexianthus, are ensured lasting places in our historical memory. No matter what others may do in the future, nobody can ever the standing of these women as the first to accomplish these feats.
