In 1940, scientists first isolated a sample of the steroid hormone androstenone, which they knew existed in animals--and, they assumed, only in animals. _____ scientists know that androstenone can also be found in chokecherry plants (Prunus virginiana), but this discovery didn't occur until decades later.
