Bing Xie and her team have discovered that plains zebras make at least four types of vocalizations: "snorts," "soft snorts," "squeals," and "quagga quagga" calls. The researchers used machine-learning algorithms to ________ recorded vocalizations according to type, finding that snorts vary across individual zebras, while squeals are more uniform across zebra populations.
