Joseph Goodrich was an outspoken abolitionist whose Wisconsin home was a stop on the underground railroad (the network of people and places that some enslaved people used to escape to freedom). supporters of the railroad were secretive about their antislavery views. By and large, they were vocal abolitionists like Goodrich.
