- The James River NWR is a 4,147-acre area in Virginia, on the Atlantic coast.
- It was established to protect the endangered bald eagle.
- The Hopper Mountain NWR is a 2,471-acre area in California, on the Pacific coast.
- It was established to protect the endangered California condor.
