Although the term “balloonomania”—referring to the hot-air balloon fad in England and France in the late 1700s—might suggest that the public as a whole was captivated by the technology, it was not universally ______ whereas many flocked to balloon launches and purchased balloon-themed items ranging from dinnerware to accessories, others dismissed the hot-air balloon as an impractical and dangerous extravagance.
