The names of geological eras uniformly describe phases in Earth's evolutionary history (e.g., Cenozoic means "new life"). Names given to geological periods, ______ are of diverse origins. The Silurian period is named after the Celtic tribe the Silures, for example, while the Permian period takes its name from the historical region of Perm in Russia.
