Dermatological researchers and geneticists make regular use of representative cross-sections of hair fibers, but such a cross-section can be obtained only if the strand can be cut perpendicular to its length without distorting the cross-sectional shape, which necessitates embedding the hair in a stabilizing medium, often resin, before sectioning it. Resin is effective but slow due to its long curing time, which led Tina Lasisi and colleagues to try sheets of low-melt-point plastic as a stabilizer. They found that these sheets match resin's utility as a stabilizer while allowing for near-instantaneous embedding of hair, thereby demonstrating that using low-melt-point plastic sheeting rather than resin can enhance ______
