The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City exhibits some video games as works of art. The 2006 game Dwarf Fortress, like other highly complex games, is shown only in video footage because it would be impractical to make the game available for visitors to play in the museum. And while this does mean that the interactive element of such games is not fully represented, MoMA’s choice to make simpler games, like Pac-Man from 1980, playable in the exhibition shows that the museum is trying to represent the interactivity of games when practical.
