Because many of the first cattle ranchers in the US learned the trade from Spanish-speaking Mexican vaqueros (cowboys), many ranching terms in the English language come from Spanish. One example is the word "lasso." It comes from the Spanish word lazo. Another example is "rodeo." blank comes from the Spanish word rodear.
