In Finland, the Hankasalmi observatory site monitors activity in the upper atmosphere of the northern in Antarctica, another observatory site, Zhongshan Station, monitors the sky of the southern hemisphere. Together, they are part of the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network—or SuperDARN, as space physicists like Kathryn McWilliams call it.
