In the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute's innovative multisensory exhibit of garments and accessories spanning four centuries, an emphasis on the ________ of fashion was conveyed both by the exhibit's theme of perpetual renewal in nature and, more subtly, by its scientific re-creations of ephemeral elements (like a fragrance worn with a dress more than a century ago).
