Included in Serial Intent, a 2017 group exhibition at the Akron Art Museum in Ohio, was the work of artist Lorna Simpson, who is best known for her multimedia artworks that images of African American women with text fragments. Her work is credited with expanding the horizons of conceptual photographic art, and it challenges conventional notions of race, gender, history, and memory.
