Sparrows and other pest birds can cause damage to sweet cherries and other fruits grown on farms by pecking at them and spoiling them. Aware of some practical limitations of reflective elements and other common deterrents, Qing Chen et al. investigated the utility of an inexpensive, easily installed sonic bird repeller in a pear orchard. In one area the repeller emitted a sound continuously, while in another it emitted a sound only when triggered by a webcam linked to a neural network trained to recognize a pest bird’s presence. (A third area without a repeller was used as a control condition.) Chen et al. concluded that an intermittently active sonic repellent is more effective than one that is constantly active, as evidenced by the fact that __________

mediumWhich choice most effectively uses data from the graph to complete the assertion?
A
the lowest rate of damage occurred in the area of the orchard where the repeller was not attached to a neural network.
B
the greatest rate of damage to the pears occurred in the area of the orchard where no repeller was used.
C
the rate of damage to the pears was approximately 7% in the area with the repeller attached to a neural network and approximately 13% in the area where no repeller was used.
D
the rate of damage to the pears was approximately 6% in the area with the repeller attached to a neural network and approximately 7% in the area with the repeller not attached to a neural network.
