A 2016 study by researchers Andreas Keller and Leslie Vosshall evaluating how participants described the odors of various chemical compounds revealed some similarities between the odor of sample 15 (linoleic acid) and that of sample 18 (propionic acid). The _______ primary descriptors both included "sour"; however, the next most common word used for sample 15 was "decayed," while that for sample 18 was "musky."
