A loose confederation of cities from eleven modern-day countries, the Hanseatic League was a powerful mercantile alliance that dominated northern European trade between the 13th and 17th centuries. Hanseatic League member ______ was serendipitously located on the Warnow River in Germany, giving Rostock's merchants access to key maritime trade routes.
