In recent years, the English writer Matilda Betham (1776-1852), whose poetry was widely read during her lifetime, has been rediscovered by contemporary audiences -a resurgence of interest that is largely due to literary scholars such as Elaine Bailey, whose work ________ the richness of Betham's poems and the poet's historical importance to the Romantic literary movement encourages a broader rethinking of British Romanticism itself.
