Though few critics consider Vasily Grossman's novel Stalingrad—which focuses on the experience of the Soviet Union in the early years of World War II—to be as well written as his later book Everything Flows, some compliment it despite the damage Soviet censors: Luke Harding in The Guardian called the novel "a work of lyrical art."
