Dervla Murphy, who cycled solo through Europe, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, undoubtedly accomplished much, but her place in our historical memory is perhaps more than that of a noteworthy "first" such as Ynes Mexia, who was the first to discover the botanical genus Mexianthus, a deed for which she will always be remembered.
