Anthropologist, activist, and musician Lila Downs draws on a variety of Mexican musical genres in her 2023 album La Sánchez. ________ she draws on corridos, rancheras, and other genres of northern Mexico, even though she is from the southern Mexican city of Oaxaca. "La Sánchez is my contribution," Downs says in an interview, "as a southern woman, that also considers this music as hers."
