Mammillaria glochidiata is a critically endangered cactus endemic to a small area of the Mexican state of Hidalgo. Because the species occupies a narrow geographic range, conservationists have struggled to design protective measures focused exclusively on it. Recent fieldwork by botanists has shown that M. glochidiata grows alongside several more widespread Mammillaria species that already benefit from regional habitat protections.
