In 1958, Jim Dine and several other emerging artists founded the Judson Gallery in New York City, a nurturing space where artists produced and exhibited works that were radically new at the time—from assemblages (mixed-media pieces with found objects) to “Happenings” (performance art experiences designed to be irreplicable).
