Nancy Bird-Walton, who was an aviation pioneer, undoubtedly accomplished much, but to gain a lasting place in our historical memory, there is little that can being the first to do something. For example, people will always remember that Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz was the first woman to sail solo around the world.
