That Chaucer's Canterbury Tales inspired imitators is evident from the existence of three near-contemporary "continuations" of the collection: The Siege of Thebes, which purports to be a new tale told during the pilgrims' ______ The Tale of Beryn, which depicts the pilgrims as tourists; and The Ploughman's Tale, which features a minor character from the original work.
