In 2017, Belgium, which has strong democratic institutions, experienced an inflation rate of 2.12%, much higher than the 0.74% rate seen in Equatorial Guinea, which has relatively weak democratic institutions. Such a result is _______, however; Raj Desai et al. have shown that democratic institution strength tends to restrain inflationary pressures.
