The work of contemporary Asian American poet John Yau often incorporates references to other poems and works of visual art. Typically, these allusive gestures are subtle, recognized by only the most attentive of Yau's readers. in his 2013 poem "Further Adventures in Monochrome," Yau explicitly identifies a particular artwork-Yves Klein's 1960 painting Silence is Golden-as the poem's inspiration.
