In 1931, scientists first isolated a sample of the steroid hormone androsterone, which they knew existed in animals—and, they assumed, only in animals. _____ researchers would find androsterone in Swiss cheese plants (Monstera deliciosa), but this discovery wouldn't come until decades later.
